So to get to Tepoztlan in Morelos you have to take a bus to the Metro, and ride the metro for about an hour to the very southern edge of the city. There you jump on a Charter bus and take that for a little over an hour to the little pueblo of Tepoztlan! On the bus they played Prince of Persia in Spanish! It was really cool getting to watch it in spanish and actually have to try to understand what they are saying! When we got there we took a taxi to Amanda's parents house and went right to sleep. Here's a picture of the house
The house is built on top of a giant tank for water and the whole house and the adjacent rooms are set up so that all the rain water drains into this tank. It's really nice cause they use all this water to water their plants, filling the dog bowls, and going to the bathroom!
As you can see there is no tank on the toilet. So in order to flush the toilet you had to fill a bucket of water and take it with you to the bathroom, which is more of an outhouse cause it is not attatched to the house. You do your business and then pour the water into the bowl, kinda interesting I know.
This is the Shower that we used! Showering with rain water was something new for me! In order to heat up the water for your shower you have to light a fire under a smaller tank that is adjacent to the big tank and heat the water up in it in order to have hot water for your shower, and it only stays hot for as long as the fire is going and a little bit after. You actually have to plan ahead to take a shower, you can't just go take one.
Amanda's mom is 100% full bred Mexican and her dad is 100% full bred German! He has lived in Mexico for over 40 years now and still speaks Spanish with a German accent! It's actually pretty interesting to hear him talk, but he's a really funny guy and totally looks German too!
So we slept way in on saturday and didn't wake up till like ten! It was absolutely fantastic, we woke up had corn pops in yogurt and were on our way! We went to downtown in a convey (basically a van that is a bus) and looked around at all the shops. Tepoztlan is kind of like the St. George of Mexico if Mexico City is Salt Lake. It is where all the rich people have their Winter homes. All the streets are cobblestone but that doesnt stop them from driving Mercedes-Benz SLK's on them!
From down town we went literally straight up the mountain to Tepoztcan, which is the name of this pyramid!
So when you get to the top of the climb and you are thoroughly worn out and your knees and feet hurt, is when they tell you that it costs 43 pesos to climb the pyramid! Totally thought it was going to be free till we got up there, at which point they tell you that you have to pay for it!
Tepoztican was built in the 1500s sometime and is literally at the top of a mountain! I can't even imagine what on earth would posses them to haul all the stone to the top of the mountain to build this! The hike is an easy 2km and is never flat at all, it is literally straight up the mountain. The Pyramid isn't the biggest pyramid in the world but still impressive for being at the top of the mountain.
This a view from near the base of the pyramid
From the first level. Haha the pyramid doesnt look nearly as impressive from this angle but it's still awesome!
Some cool carvings
I dunno if you can read this but it gives the basic history of the temple
What they think the temple probably looked like with its roof on still!
How steep a significant portion of the trail is! yeah it's crazy!
Steep Stairs!
Some really cool roots
This is a base of a pyramid that no longer exists in downtown Tepoztlan. This pyramid would have been much bigger than Tepoztican! Pretty Cool!
The view from the top of the Pyramid! We started in the middle of that city down there!
A cute animal at the top that really like human stuff! although he does have some pretty wicked nails!
So after we got back down we went back to Amanda's house and had the most delicious Meat balls that I have ever had! We had them with Hand-made tortillas which were the greatest hand made tortillas that I have ever eaten! I seriously could just eat those tortillas and be totally happy, they put all other tortillas to shame!
We went to church the next day and it was really interesting to see the new ward and how everything was exactly the same as back home in Utah except it was all in Spanish and there are a lot less people.
After church we jumped on a bus and came back to the Academy
I'd say this weekend was pretty awesome overall! I had the chance to get out of the city of 20+ Million people and back into the mountains where I belong and loved it! After getting back nothing really new has happened here on campus other than I had a chance to go to downtown again yesterday to buy lights and that was pretty cool!
I think I'm done though now! Comment on my posts so that I can see who is reading these and ask me about stuff you want to know about and I'll post them in future posts!

Que una adventura! Estoy disfrutando su blog y su fotos! Sabes que tipo de animal? Me encanta tortillas frescas, muy deliciosa. Quiero una tortilla press, por eso puedo hacerlas.
